High quality, well-designed bag
This is, quite possibly, a perfect carry-on bag. I travel quite a bit and have a lot of luggage but this is my new favorite, hands down. It is the perfect size for a long weekend (I have casual clothes for a 4 day trip in it in the pics). The zippered compartment in the main suitcase body offers compression to allow for quite a bit of stuff to go in. The zippered pockets on top are perfect for shoes (as long as they're not huge), and the little zippered pouch in the side can be used for toiletries (though I used it for undergarments because I carry my toiletries in my personal item). I just took this on a trip where I was flying coach on American Airlines. It fit easily in the overhead bin and passed the "does your carry-on fit" test box in line (though I see people violate that all of the time). I prefer to bring a carry-on and then gate-check it, but I had a short layover in Chicago before my connecting flight so I stowed it overhead for quick retrieval. It is very thoughtfully designed, with the rigid bar on the bottom, to withstand the rigors of the overhead compartment without being crushed. Areas that see the most damage on luggage (like corners) are reinforced and protected so that even when they gate-check it the suitcase is protected. The handle is amazing! It slides out easily, stays put, and is ergonomically correct for easy handling. The wheels roll smoothly and handle parking lot bumps with ease. I highly recommend this bag, and I plan to try a larger bag from this manufacturer because I'm so impressed by the quality of this one. 5 stars. *note: my husband pointed out that this doesn't have a very substantial laptop sleeve. I didn't know that was a thing in carry-ons (I keep my computer in my backpack), but be aware of that if it's important to you.

This thing is very lightweight - about 2 pounds. There are pockets for everything, including an out of the way one for a luggage tag. My 12 year old is currently using this as an overnight bag and he's happy too! I can't find anything with this to complain about.

So I went to Europe for 5 1/2 weeks back in April. Traveled via airplane, train, and bus. All I had was this Osprey carry on for everything. No checked baggage. I was a little worried when I first received it as there is a metal bar that runs down the center. If you roll your clothing, you can pack items on each side of the bar. The huge pocket at the back and the zippered top can hold quite a few items. The wheels are awesome. I'm only going to travel with this suitcase from now on. It sure made traveling a bit easier and I didn't have to struggle to lift it. It's the perfect carry on for me.

Multiple pockets make it easy to stay very organized. A lot of reviews say there isn’t much space, but this is sized for universal carry on, so it’s going to be small. It’s well made

This is a slim wheeled carry-on, with a large compartment in the back for clothes. There's a mesh compartment to help keep things a bit more organized. You can access the toiletries pocket from the top, and there's also a back panel pocket for flat stuff like magazines. In the front, a padded laptop sleeve for a 15" laptop, where there's also an RFID-proof pocket for your RFID valuables. Other than that, not a whole lot of small organization, though. Large 90mm wheels and high clearance make dragging this thing along much easier, especially over curbs. A side handle lets you carry it like a briefcase. Just under 5 lbs as well. Everything feels like good quality, and it looks smart as well.

Pricey, sticky zipper, and with a massive frame rail going through the main comparment
Will this work as a nice carry on? Yes. Are there better options out there for much less money? Also yes. The telescoping handle works as well as you'd want, as well as the wheels and the stability while laying down and standing up, but everything else leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. The back and bottom of this are extremely rigid, with the frames protruding inches into the actual luggage space. This would be okay if it were more sturdy all around, but there's absolutely no protection on the front of this case right next to extremely thick and rigid protection on the bottom and back. It's only an inch or two, but when you only have 10 inches to work with, that's a lot. You can see how visible/intrusive these are in the pictures, and it really feels like they rob you of space and any hopes of loading anything flat and fragile in the main compartment (though there are other compartments that they would fit in). It has a RFID blocking sleeve which can be useful, and separation/straps around the main compartment, but the main zipper to get into it feels very sticky, and almost always like its just about to be stuck, and hasn't gotten better through dozens of openings/closings. I don't want to give this 3 stars because after all it works and seems well built for the most part, but even at half its price, I would still expect better. However, this does overall feel well built, and I wouldn't expect anything (other than maybe the zippers) to fail on you, even with some rough handling. If the name and endless warranty mean that much to you, it'll work, but don't expect that you're getting ~3x the usability for 3x the price of similar wheeled carry on luggage (unless you travel a ton and have durability issues with your past carry ons)

Just the right size for a weekend trip.
This is a great carry on bag. Easy to pack, light weight and the construction seems solid.

Can't wait to use this suitcase
This suitcase seems well-made. There are three compartments in the front and one in the back. In the front, the first compartment is thin and long. It could fit a laptop or paperwork. There is also a RFID blocking pocket. The middle compartment is the main one. It opens up to mesh divided sections. One side has two zippered mesh pockets that could be used for toiletries, paperwork, or small items. The other side has zippered mesh over a large compartment. The third compartment is a small pocket that would be perfect for glasses, charging cords, snacks, or other small items that you need easy access to. The back compartment is thin and long. This is where you would put important paperwork. You might be able to fit a small laptop here. There is a small clear pocket inside that could hold an ID. The fabric on the front and sides of this suitcase feels like leather. I believe the back is thick nylon. The handle extends to two lengths: a shorter length that would be perfect for children, or fully extended for adults.

Failed to Meet Expectations
Rolling Transporter 40 v. the competition and loose miserably. Failed to Meet Expectations You could say I am a fan of Osprey packing equipment for I have bought (or trialled and returned) of well over 20 of them. From various wash bags, Tote, Daylite’s, Farpoint Wheels, Farpoint packs, Sojourn’s, Atmos AG 50 & 65, Farpoint Treks, Duffels …. That’s because I am for ever (over 40 years) in the quest to find the perfect packs for (mostly) work assignments to deserts and offshore. Take a look at one of the photo’s; sharp eyes amongst your will see there are two Farpoint Wheels 36 because the second one was on a very special deal. Among the 20+ Osprey packs, this is the third I have had to return because it failed to meet the spec’s, this time, miserably. Suffice to say I no longer bother reading the reviews of adventure equipment web sites; I don’t know why anyone would give it more than 2 stars. Osprey Europe web site itself made a song and dance about the material used, “TPU”. Fine, but, the first but, for the price why not make the zips water proof also. Waterproof zips have been invented decades ago and Goretex jackets have had them two decades ago (the more expensive models). Second big BUT, TPU is not used on the bottom ! Why NOT? The bottom is always the first part to get wet. Even if the packs, any packs are stood up, they inevitably fall to their lowest centre of gravity whether bouncing on a Toyota Land Cruiser or on an offshore workboat. There is no mention of this anywhere on Osprey Europe, text or photos. It has none of the features I must have and available on e.g. Farpoint Wheels 36, or Jack Wolfskin TRT Rail 40 but was prepared to forego the features for waterproofness. 1 star awarded for twin column extension pull-along handle (and slide the Daylite Tote or laptop bag with the special sleeve) so it stays on without falling off – can’t do the same with single column handle. Another for the chassis which is near identical to the other wheeled luggage mentioned above. The wheels are very smooth, and runs quiet on airport floors. So what do I recommend a worker who needs a 36-40 litre wheeled cabin luggage to act as mobile office for 100 to 250 days of the year, every year ? Seeing as the Transporter 40 is not waterproof, may as well consider these :- If the work assignment allows you weekends off to go hiking, choose the Osprey Farpoint Wjheels 36. It is only 36 litres and further limited by the dual curvature of the pack – curvature for spine and for the back of the ribs). Hence 4 stars. But it has the best shoulder harness (and waist strap). The harness is comfortable and takes only seconds to put into action or zip out of the way. It has a section for document on the outside so it is easy to pull out documents while in a queue at airport or hotel. (Some countries you need to fight to stay in the queue and if you have to lay the pack down to open it to extract something, you would end up last in the queue). The best compromise wheeled cabin pack I would have on my next assignment will is the Jack Wolfskin TRT Rail 40. It has the sections I want to separate various office equipment, photographic kit, sound and light meters, binoculars etc. True the shoulder straps takes couple of minutes to engage but the twin column extension pull-along handle means it is lower profile than models with single column (which have to be thicker to give them strength, pure physics). This is for assignments which have little chance for “excursions” and space for packing equipment into it is more important. This Jack Wolfskin also has thicker fabric for in an emergency I would not be able to go get a new one when in the desert or offshore. Most assignments are couple of months to as long as half a year at remote locations. The most I could do would be stick some Gorilla Tape on a tear (also purchased through Amazon). The Farpoint Wheels is far easier to tear – there are lots of metal edges on a working vessel or sharp rocks in deserts. Worth putting in the short-list if you can still find it (it is no longer produced so would be discounted if available) is Lowe Alpine AT Roll-On 40. I give this three stars because the shoulder straps takes the longest to engage and remove. The Extension handle is unique, the columns of which are located to the edges of the pack so as not to take up valuable space along the middle bottom of the pack. But of course you cannot slide the Osprey Tote or laptop case through the columns, at least I have not seen a laptop bag with wide enough sleeve. All three models mentioned here have good chassis and wheels. All the luggage packs mentioned here were bought rather than given to me for review by manufacturers, and nearly all purchased via Amazon. There is an updated Transporter but it is still 2 stars compared to these three models.
